Mountaineering in the United States  has been around for some time, but it found it's real start with the Men & Women of the 10th Mountain Infantry Division in WWII.  This band of Western Cowboys, New England Skiers and Climbers and  a large group of patriotic immigrants, from places like Norway, Finland, Switzerland and many other countries, brought the climbing and skiing industry to the forefront.  They created places like Vail and Aspen Colorado ski areas and they made the wonders of Mountaineering available for the American public as a whole.  Their impact on this industry is pivotal and we salute them as we climb for the summit.

When the men of the 10th Mountain Division WWII came on the scene, they were a special cut, a breed unto themselves.  Mountain Soldiers have been a minority in the US Military compared to their counterparts in European Armies.  The Mountaineering industry in the U.S. exists because of this unique and smaller group of men and women.  It was and is shaped by their honorable actions, both past and present.  Very few sport climbers and skiers in the US today, know that they owe their sport and the development of their high tech equipment to the US Military's dedicated Soldiers & Marines.  We salute you, and we bring this unique quality to our business.  It is OUR Foundation.

Above on Mount Rainer Washington are Members of the 87th Regiment of the 10th Mountain Infantry Division WWII, at what is now Paradise Lodge and the location for the operations of the Premier Mountaineering Company , Rainer Mountaineering Incorporated.  This company and many like it find their roots in the history of the 10th.  We at CMR bring Modern day Mountaineering training, but with the Heart and Passion of our 10th Mountain Past.
